  The Gvara Fortress is located 300 meters from the confluence of the Machakhlistkali and Chorokhi rivers on a hill that rises above the valleys of these rivers. However, the remaining ones reach a height of 5-6 meters. During the excavations, it was established that the Gvara Fortress was built in the 5-6th century AD. The fortress was actively used in the 8th - 14th centuries AD. Its strategic importance due to its favorable geographical location was extremely great. Owning it, one could control the valleys of the Machakhela and Chorokhi rivers, as a result of which to have control over the path to the Black Sea.
